In his first public interview since taking the Los Angeles Lakers' coaching job, Mike D'Antoni admitted that many of his Lakers fan friends would have preferred Phil Jackson.

Mike D'Antoni's first public interview since being hired as the Los Angeles Lakers' head coach was with Ryan Seacrest, because of course. Speaking on Seacrest's syndicated radio show on 102.7 KIIS FM on Tuesday morning, D'Antoni delivered a few boring newsish lines and a bunch of coach-speak platitudes. But he also said this when asked to deliver a message to Lakers fans concerned about the state of affairs and the absence of Phil Jackson.

"Hang in there," he said. "I have real close friends that were Lakers fans, and they were disappointed I got the job."

Hopefully, for his sake, he can prove even his closest friends wrong.
