Torii Hunter meeting with Tigers in Detroit

Doug Pensinger

The free-agent outfielder is having a "meet-and-greet" at Comerica Park on Tuesday.

After being tied to nearly half the teams in the league in speculation and rumors over the past few weeks, Torii Hunter may finally be making a concrete move toward signing with a new club. The veteran outfielder is meeting with members of the Tigers' front office in Detroit on Tuesday to discuss making the club his new home, per FOX Sports.

The in-person assembly is being described as a "meet-and-greet", per MLB.com, and no deal is thought to be imminent, but it is the first tangible step Hunter has taken with regard to signing with a new team. It is not believed that the Tigers have made any formal offer to the veteran outfielder, but one could come soon as Hunter has expressed his desire to be off the market in the next two weeks.

The Rangers, Red Sox, Yankees, and Braves have all been linked to Hunter in the last few weeks and could still be in play for his services.

The 37-year-old Hunter put together a solid season with the Los Angeles Angels in 2012, hitting .313/.365/.451 with 16 home runs and 92 RBI in 140 games this year.
