Rob Carr

The Florida St. Seminoles dominated the first half and cruised to a 41-14 win over Maryland on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Florida St. Seminoles had little trouble capturing their fifth-straight win, topping Maryland 41-14 on the road Saturday afternoon.

With three touchdowns and two field goals in the first half, the 10th-ranked Seminoles put the game out of reach by the intermission. After scoring on Devonta Freeman's 5-yard rushing touchdown on its first possession, Florida State extended the lead to 14-0 with E.J. Manuel's 10-yard pass to Nick O'Leary following a Terrapins fumble.

Manuel closed out the half with his second passing touchdown, a 30-yard strike to Rashad Greene, to give the Seminoles the 27-0 lead at halftime.

Maryland responded on their opening drive of the second half with its first score on quarterback Shawn Petty's dump-off to Kevin Dorsey for 33 yards. Dorsey added another highlight play in the final minute of the game, catching a 42-yard touchdown to make the score a little more respectable for the Terrapins.

However, that was the extent of the Maryland's success on offense as it managed only 170 total yards for the contest.

Box Score Hero: Devonta Freeman led the Seminoles' rushing attack with 148 yards, including a long of 47, and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Florida State continues to make its case for a higher ranking as one of seven teams in the BCS top 10 with one loss of fewer.

But Did They Cover? By allowing a late score, Florida State came up short of covering as 31-point favorites.
