Breeders' Cup 2012 Marathon Results: Calidoscopio shocks the field

Harry How

Argentinian raider Calidoscopio wins the longest race on Breeders' Cup weekend, the 1-3/4 mile Marathon.

Argentinian raider Calidosocpio (ARG) powered to the front of the field in the final half-mile to win the 2012 Breeders' Cup Marathon. Commander took the early lead and set expected soft fractions but by the time the field was six furlongs from home the leaders were starting to tire. Atigun assumed the lead on the turn but could not withstand the powerful finish of the South American raider.

Worth Repeating, 5/1 on the morning line odds, was scratched from the race earlier in the day.

Calidoscopio (ARG) is a nine-year-old son of Luhuk out of a Lefty mare.

The big odds on the first two Breeders' Cup winners on the day keyed huge payouts in the exotic wagers. The Daily Double returned $580.40 for a $2.00 wager, while the $0.50 Pick 5 paid a cool $37,705.45 for five correct picks.

Below are the payouts, fractions and internal splits for the 2012 Breeders' Cup Marathon.
