Breeders' Cup 2012 Filly & Mare Turf Results: Zagora scores big win

Harry How

Zagora, sent off at odds of 9/1, upsets The Fugue in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Zagora (FR) held off Marketing Mix and The Fugue (FR) in the final quarter-mile to win the 2012 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. The Fugue was full of run coming off the far turn but she had no where to run for most of the stretch drive. Zagora, with a much cleaner trip around the track, kicked clear of her rivals, putting away the race inside the final furlongs. Marketing Mix, The Fugue and Ridasiyna (FR) finished second, third and fourth.

Nereid, 15/1 on the morning line, scratched from the field prior to the race.

Zagora is a five-year-old mare by Green Tune out of a Mtoto (GB) mare (Zaneton (FR)), trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Javier Castellano.
