Breeders' Cup 2012 Ladies' Classic Results: A repeat for Royal Delta

Harry How

Royal Delta goes gate-to-wire for the win and wins the Ladies' Classic for the second consecutive year.

Royal Delta went right to the lead after leaving the starting gate, set fast early fractions and held off My Miss Aurelia and Include Me Out in the final furlong to win the 2012 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic for the second consecutive year, becoming the first back-to-back winner in the Ladies' Classic/Distaff since Bayakoa (ARG) in 1989-1990.

Questing (GB), one of the top 3-year-old fillies in the country this season, never looked comfortable during the race and was pulled up on the backstretch. She did not suffer any visible injuries; jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. said after the race he pulled her up because she wasn't traveling well and not because of any serious injury.

The string of huge payouts during the Pick 6 sequence keyed a payout of $773,865.20 for a $2 base wager.

Royal Delta is a 4-year-old daughter of Empire Maker out of an A.P. Indy mare (Delta Princess), trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Mike Smith.

Below are the payouts, fractions and internal splits for the 2012 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic.
