Smokey is the bandit

What happens when Tennessee's mascot gets loose?

Smokey, the live mascot of the Tennessee Volunteers, has had quite the year. There was the closeup on College GameDay a few months ago, in which Smokey showed his hind parts. For a mascot, it doesn't get much better than that.

And now, there's this. Smokey broke loose on Saturday, getting away from the handlers and running free like a streaker. He bolted from the end zone, making it through the defense and to the 35. And at the 35, the Kentucky kicker was waiting, an unassuming victim of a bandit on the loose.

Just missed taking out the kicker's legs. We were inches from disaster, friends. Or inches from complete hilarity, I guess. Depends on how you look at the situation.

Smokey was corralled, his business left unfinished and the Kentucky kicker still left standing. The dog has had a stressful year, and perhaps Smokey was just lashing out.

And to be fair, this illustrates how easy it is to get loose against Kentucky. Anyone can run on that team.
