Panthers vs. Eagles, Week 12: Going from bad to worse in Philly

Things are so bad in Philly, the Eagles couldn't beat the lowly Carolina Panthers and their emo quarterback with his suggestion box, Cam Newton.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost their seventh consecutive game on Monday night to a Carolina Panthers team that had seen its share of dark days over the past few weeks. As each week passes, things continue to go from bad to worse in Philly. Only five more games left before this season can be deleted from memory.

Without starting quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy, both out with concussions, it would be up to two rookies to take their place. To JasonB of Bleeding Green Nation, one of the rookies, running back Bryce Brown had the better, albeit ugly, night in place of McCoy.

The Eagles standout on the night was clearly Bryce Brown. The rookie ... racked up 178 yards on 19 rushes with 2 TDs. He broke the Eagles single game rookie rushing record, previously held by Correll Buckhalter ...

But like pretty much everything this season, Bryce Brown had an ugly side tonight. He fumbled twice and both ended up in the Panthers hands. That is no small thing. Brown looked very good running the ball tonight, but that's means nothing ... if you can't secure the ball.

The second rookie, QB Nick Foles, making his second start of the season, continues to be less than impressive. As JasonB points out, his night could have been much worse if Carolina wasn't as terrible as they've played this season.

Nick Foles went 16-21 for 119 yards and if the Panthers' DBs had any ability to catch a ball whatsoever, he would have thrown 3 picks as well. As we've said before, it's a very difficult situation for any QB to be in ... let alone a rookie, but its hard to say we saw any growth from Foles in start 2.

If Vick improves during the week, Foles might have seen his last start at QB. Yet, where the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. DeSean Jackson left during the first half with a sternum injury. Updates are forthcoming.

Love you some Philadelphia Eagles? It's okay if you don't want to admit it because there are plenty more like you at Bleeding Green Nation.
