The deal is pending a physical and is reportedly worth $17 million over two years.

Catcher Russell Martin has a deal in place with the Pittsburgh Pirates, pending a physical exam, according to reports by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and Tom Singer of MLB.com. David Waldstein of The New York Times says the contract would be worth $17 million over two years.

Martin, 29, has played with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees over the past seven seasons, and looks now bound to return to the National League, after two seasons at the Bronx.

He hit .211, with 89 hits in 422 plate appearances, with 18 doubles and 21 home runs in 2012 while serving as the Yankees' primary backstop.

The native of East York, Ontario, is preparing to defend his country's colors in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. While he played mostly catcher and designated hitter last year, he has also hinted his interest of playing shortstop for Team Canada, saying that is the position he plays best.
