White Sox scour for starting pitching help

Finding another starter would allow Chicago to trade right-hander Gavin Floyd.

The Chicago White Sox currently have a rotation that includes Jake Peavy, Chris Sale, John Danks, Gavin Floyd and Jose Quintana, but new general manager Rick Hahn is said to be searching the market for a low-end starting pitcher. Hahn is rumored to be shopping Floyd, who is owed $9.5 million in 2013.

Floyd battled elbow injuries throughout July and August, landing on the disabled list twice, in 2012. When healthy, the 29-year-old righty tossed 168 innings, allowing 166 hits and issuing 63 walks. Floyd posted a 4.29 ERA, but his FIP was slightly higher, at 4.41 for the year. He is due to hit free agency following the 2013 campaign.

The team's willingness to move Floyd could be seen as a payroll move, as a trade might free up enough cash to fill some of Chicago's other roster voids. Though there are no rumors on which pitchers the White Sox are targeting, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal notes that the team is looking for a pitcher "at the right price."
