Breeders' Cup 2012 Filly & Mare Sprint Results: Groupie Doll struts her class

Jeff Gross

Groupie Doll, the best female sprinter in North America, wins with ease at the Breeders' Cup.

Groupie Doll, the even money favorite on the morning line and the odds-on favorite at post time, lived up to her hype with an easy win in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. With her win at the Breeders' Cup, Groupie Doll has won five consecutive graded stakes races, including three grade 1 races. During 2012, Groupie Doll has won grade 1 races on both dirt and synthetic surfaces.

Dust and Diamonds briefly grabbed the lead at the top of the stretch but couldn't keep up with the winner for more than a few strides. Switch closed from well back to finish third while Belle of the Hall rounded out the superfecta.

Groupie Doll is a 4-year-old daughter of Bowman's Band out of a Silver Deputy mare (Deputy Doll), trained by William Bradley and ridden by Rajiv Maragh.
