Breeders' Cup 2012 Turf Results: Little Mike scores at 17/1

Harry How

Little Mike upsets Point of Entry and a host of international horses in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Little Mike went by the early leaders at the top of the stretch and ran away from his rivals to score a big upset in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Turf. Turbo Compressor broke well from the gate and set fast fractions through the first half of the race while Little Mike, expected to be challenging for the lead, sat off the pace waiting to make a run. The Japanese raider Trailblazer took a shot at the lead but could do nothing to prevent the winner from blowing by him in the stretch, while race favorite Point of Entry put in a valiant late run to finish second.

Little Mike is a 5-year-old gelding by Spanish Steps out of a Wavering Monarch mare (Hay Jude), trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Ramon Dominguez. The Breeders' Cup Turf is his third grade 1 win in 2012 (Arlington Million; Turf Classic).

The final time of the Turf was 2:24.84, a Breeders' Cup record.
