Ryan Raburn courted by Rays, Rangers among others

Rob Carr

The utility infielder could replace Jeff Keppinger in Tampa's infield.

Ryan Raburn, who is making his first dalliance into free agency, has a number of suitors lining up for his services, including the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. The 31-year-old utilityman has spent his entire major-league playing career with the Detroit Tigers.

Raburn's 2012 campaign was hampered by injuries, including a thumb sprain that caused him to miss 31 days and quad problems that cost him 54 days. When healthy, he hit just .171/.226/.254 in 222 plate appearances. He did, however, provide Detroit with positional flexibility, splitting time between second base and the outfield corners.

In his career, Raburn has hit .256/.311/.430, though he has not been able to replicate the success of his 2009 campaign, during which he hit .291/.359/.533. Raburn could replace the Rays' Jeff Keppinger, who departed via free agency and has since fractured his leg falling down the stairs of his home.
