After denying that he interviewed with Auburn, Louisville's head coach reportedly had an interview for Tennessee's vacant position on Friday.
Louisville coach Charlie Strong interviewed with Tennessee for its vacant position on Friday, according to multiple reports, including Volquest.com. This comes a couple days after Strong denied that he had an interview for the open coaching job at Auburn.
Tennessee has been looking for a replacement for Derek Dooley, who was fired on Nov. 18. One of the names that was being circulated was former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden, who is currently working as an NFL analyst for ESPN. This, however, was nothing new as Tennessee has continually expressed interest in Gruden, who just keeps turning down the job. Gruden was formerly a graduate assistant for the Volunteers in 1986.
Strong led Louisville this season to a 10-2 overall record and 5-2 mark in the Big East. The Cardinals beat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 20-17 on Thursday to send Louisville to a BCS bowl. On Wednesday, Louisville announced that it was moving to the ACC, making for a memorable 24-hour stretch for the school.
