Chiefs vs. Broncos 2012: KC locks up No. 1 pick with loss

USA TODAY Sports

The only bright side to a 2-14 season is that the Chiefs have the top pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs were little more than a speed bump as the Denver Broncos clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs on Sunday. The 38-3 victory for Denver sent the Broncos into the postseason knowing that they won't need to leave the Mile High City until the Super Bowl, while Kansas City clinched the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL Draft.

An anemic offense was once again the main weakness for Kansas City. Brady Quinn had just 49 yards passing, which came down to 26 after sacks. The Chiefs added just 93 yards rushing and only managed an early second-quarter field goal for their only points.

As Arrowhead Pride stated, it was a fitting end to the season:

Brady Quinn threw for 49 yards. We were left wondering why Jamaal Charles only had 14 rushes. Tony Moeaki was the leading receiver with ... 21 yards. The defense gave up 30 points before the end of the third quarter. Injuries forced right tackle Eric Winston to play some left tackle and rookie guard Jeff Allen to play right tackle.

Kansas City managed only eight first downs on the day to Denver's 19. The defense also gave up 488 yards as Peyton Manning threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns.
