Rangers, Blue Jays involved in R.A. Dickey trade talks

The Mets are shopping the Cy Young winner while they work on a potential extension.

The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays are seeking stability in their starting rotations this offseason, and both teams are now linked with New York Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey. The Mets are listening to offers on the 2012 Cy Young Award winner while they consider an extension with the righty.

Dickey comes with multiple risks, as he is 38 years old and a knuckleballer. After searching for major-league success while bouncing between the Rangers, Seattle Mariners, and the Minnesota Twins, Dickey came into his own as a member of the Mets. Since signing with the club in 2010, Dickey has pitched 616⅔ innings, allowing just 559 hits and posting an average of a 2.95 ERA.

What made Dickey's success in 2012 stand out, though, was a dramatic increase in strikeouts. The northpaw struck out 230 batters in 233⅔ innings, good for a 8.9 K/9. In 2011, he whiffed 134 batters in 208⅔ innings for a 5.8 K/9.
