Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay did a little public negotiating on Tuesday, telling reporters that the team is open to Peyton Manning remaining with them and finishing his NFL career in Indy. However, he left the ball in Manning's court, saying that the ultimate decision will rest with whether the quarterback is willing to restructure his contract first.
"We can make it work if he wants to be here,’’ Irsay said today. "We’d be excited to have him back and finish his career with us.
"I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back here if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the . . . healing process with the regeneration of the nerve.’’
Manning is due a $28 million option bonus by March 8, which would activate the final four years of a five-year, $90 million contract signed in July. If the Colts opted not to pay the bonus, Manning would become an unrestricted free agent. Irsay and Manning are expected to meet at some point in the next seven days.

As much as I don’t like Irsay, I think this is a fair choice for Peyton. This seems like a decision that is for Peyton and for the team’s future.

…no point in going back to a non-competitive team when you have a few good years left. Time to head to a team that can get to the playoffs.
