Read More: Peyton Manning (QB - DEN), Indianapolis Colts
New Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson may not have talked to Peyton Manning immediately after taking the job, which was certainly notable, but he said on Thursday that the two have discussed the quarterback's future (via Pro Football Talk). Grigson admitted the situation is currently in a "holding pattern," but that he felt he had cleared the air.
"I met with Peyton," Grigson said. "He came by my office. . . . We had a nice discussion. We spoke for 20 minutes or so. It’s been amicable. It’s been a normal thing. We talked like regular guys, I felt.
"It was an open conversation and I told him what I knew. Whatever I knew, I told him. It was a straightforward, man-to-man conversation. It was fine."
The Colts are due to make a rather significant decision regarding their future with Manning, as he's due a $28 million contract option in the next few weeks. Grigson noted that he has not yet seen Manning throw.
How Manning's contract situation plays out could be one of the key pieces of this offseason. The Colts hold the No. 1 overall pick and could select Stanford's Andrew Luck, especially if Manning is out of the picture. Assuming he's able to play, any number of teams would likely pursue Manning on the free-agent market.
