Beyond Sports Network Collegiate Showcase for Small Schoolers

Beyond Sports Network Collegiate Showcase is a Combine/Game that will be held on March 9th-11th, at the University of Akron, in Akron Ohio. Founder Jimmy Kibble former Punter of the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles and his staff have been able to really put together a great event which serves as an open door for small school prospects. The BSN Collegiate Showcase, will be a combine/game event, which is kind of identical to the events which are held at Indy, but for players exclusively in D2, D3, FCS, and NAIA school student athletes. They have done a great job in the past, helping RB, Armond Smith of the Cleveland Browns get looks which ultimately landed him in the NFL as an Undrafted Free Agent. Armond Smith a Running back from Union was just like these kids on the roster below, a small school player who was hungry and ready to show scouts that he could play at a high level. Smith burned up the combine with the fastest speed and the little NAIA school player landed a job with the Cleveland Browns.

So the question this year is will there be another Armond Smith from this year? I think there are a few guys on their roster that could get good looks from the NFL Scouts. Here is a list of guys that will be at the BSN Showcase, and who could ultimately land a spot on an NFL Roster come draft time.

In their first year holding a game with a combine, BSN looks to help more small school players get a chance to showcase their talents. There are several players that will draw interest from NFL clubs, Quarterback David Legree of Hampton who was a transfer from Syracuse, who has good size and arm strength is one player that will get a good look. . Another QB to keep an eye on is Casey Therriault of Jackson State, who lit up the SWAC division this year, and has been able to break almost every passing record for the Jackson State football team. Legree was unable to get looks from NFL scouts at the HBCU Bowl because he was coming off an injury, while Therriault practiced and talked with several scouts.

At Wide Receiver Rico Wallace, of Shenandoah is another player that will get tons of great looks, and could end up being the guy that gets the most attention from scouts. Rico has good size and speed to go along with terrific stats at the D-3 Level. Simmie Yarborough of Southeastern Louisiana is another small school sleeper who has already drawn tons of good looks from NFL teams. Simmie is a more physical receiver and is able to make plays across the middle of the field and get deep. Another receiver who will turn heads is the speedy Demario Barber, who was great at the HBCU bowl this year in Atlanta. Demario was able to get off the blocks well, and has good route running abilities. Demario could be one of the fastest players at the combine in the 40 yard dash. All three of these Wide Receivers will get good looks by NFL Scouts.

Lafayette Tight End Kevin Doty, is a very big target and will probably be a guy that does really good in the combine, because of his hands. He is a sure handed tight end who can catch the ball in traffic. Another good player to watch is Justin Aldredge of Northwestern State, who is kind of a FB/TE because of his size, but this kid doesn’t lack the heart. He is a very special player who tore up the LSU defense this year in the beginning of the season. He might get good looks as well, especially for a kid who might be able to fit in well on special teams.

On the Defensive Front, Big Willie McGinnis of Rhode Island could be a major difference maker. McGinnis, will show that he is a warrior both on the field and in the gym. McGinnis has been training really hard and could be a guy that ends up getting tons of call from the NFL after the draft. Albert Brown is another big defensive tackle who has been very talented this year for Averett. He is a big defensive player who knows and understands his job and executes well. Brown could be a kid that shows CFL teams he has what it takes.

At Linebacker, both Nick Clark of Alfred, and Brandon Harvey of Delaware State are very solid tacklers and good at run support. But when you look at this linebacker class, Tommie Westbrook of North Alabama is really the guy that sticks out. Tommie was a very good playmaker all year long for North Alabama and is ready to show the world that he has what it takes to be a special player.

At Safety Reshaude Miller of Morgan State, was one of the best players in the MEAC. He is a very hard hitter and is hungry. He reminds me of a bigger Antoine Bethea of the Indianapolis Colts. Watch out of Reshaude to take the field and the combine by storm.

The rosters are not complete still, but the rosters of who has already committed to the game is below.
