Feb 3, 2012 - Wayne Gretzky. Paul Coffey. Sam Gagner.
Normally, it is pretty easy to tell that one of these things is not like the other. Yet, after Thursday, they all have something in common.
Gagner tallied eight points (four goals, four assists) as he became the 11th player in NHL history - and third member of the Edmonton Oilers - to do so in a 8-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Gagner is the first player since Mario Lemieux on December 31, 1988, to accomplish the feat and also the second player to earn all eight points on all of his team's goals, also done by Lemieux.
Entering Thursday. Gagner had only five goals, but he almost doubled his goal output in one night. He victimized both of Chicago's goalies; Ray Emery replaced Corey Crawford after the latter allowed five goals on 28 shots, but the former allowed three on 13.
Edmonton has been having a rough season, but for one night, it felt like the 1980s all over again.
