The San Jose Sharks ended a five-game skid Monday in a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff chase.

That just sounds odd: "The Sharks keeping pace in the Western Conference playoff chase." San Jose has been one of the most dominant regular season teams in recent memory, but has struggled to find success in the postseason. Now, they are just struggling to get an opportunity.

Logan Couture snapped a 2-2 tie less than 40 seconds into the third period for the game-winning goal. Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist, while Antti Niemi made 20 saves for the win.

The Sharks are now in ninth place, one point behind the eighth-place Colorado Avalanche, but only five points behind sixth-place Chicago. The Sharks have a tough road ahead with Calgary, Nashville, Detroit and Anaheim coming up. Perhaps the Sharks will be more dangerous when fighting for their lives.
