When Alex Ovechkin is on, it's hard to turn him off.
Ovechkin's ninth goal in his last seven games was one of three Washington Capitals goals in a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night.
The Wild didn't significantly challenge the Caps, which came as no surprise as they average fewer than two goals on the road per game. Washington opened up the scoring with two tap-in goals in the second period from Jason Chimera and Mathieu Perreault. Ovechkin scored his 36th goal of the season in the third to put the game out of reach. He also assisted on Perreault's goal.
With the biggest game of the season Tuesday against the ninth-place Buffalo Sabres, Sunday's game was a much-needed boost of positive momentum for the Caps. If Ovechkin can continue his torrid stretch, then the Caps could make for a dark horse down the stretch.
