The 2012 Iditarod gets underway on Saturday with the ceremonial start of the race in Anchorage. Mushers will begin with an 11-mile run to Campbell Airstrip before departing for Willow, where the race will begin in earnest. Because it's 2012, the race will follow the Northern Iditarod route, spanning 975 miles.

Here is a map of the 2012 Iditarod race route.

The weather for the start of the race looks fairly mild, with cold temperatures expected, as usual. Anchorage saw the mercury dip to the low 20s on Friday night with flurries of snow to go along with the cold. Along the rest of the route, the weather was frigid -- from 25 degrees near the start to below zero further north -- but snow was only falling in trace amounts.

Coverage of the 2012 Iditarod can be found on the official website. With a subscription, one can watch video of the ceremonial start, track riders by way of GPS and watch video from the various checkpoints.

The race begins at 10 a.m. AST, or 2 p.m. EST. Coverage of the ceremonial start begins at 1:30 p.m. EST live on the Iditarod website.
