Time is ticking away for the Washington Capitals.
After a 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday, the Caps are now losers of six of their last 10. The last two losses have been via shutout; the Caps lost to the New Jersey Devils 5-0 Friday.
Unlike Friday's lack of effort, the Caps dominated play at points Sunday. Washington had 34 shots on goal and used an aggressive forecheck to pin Philadelphia in their own zone throughout the game, but Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 34 shots to earn the shutout victory. Moral victories can no longer be considered.
"There's no silver lining to losing hockey game during this time of year," Matt Hendricks said.
The Caps are now 1-2-0 on a pivotal five-game homestand with two games left Tuesday and Thursday. There is a month left in the season, but next week could determine the Caps' fate as they continue to falter.
