The Peyton Manning press conference is over and the reaction from Indianapolis Colts fans is that the press conference went about as well as expected. Both Manning and team owner Jim Irsay were emotional at times as they said their public goodbyes and SB Nation's Colts blog, Stampede Blue, tweets that both sides "came out looking good."
I'd agree with that. There has been some perceived tension between Irsay and Manning because we've seen leaks from both camps stating their case so I was curious to see how this press conference would go. We only know Manning as this quarterback that's always in control so it was unusual to see him expressing emotion and getting choked up talking about his departure from Indianapolis.
Manning also spoke to the Colts fans, thanking them for their support over the last decade-plus.
I'm not leaving Indianapolis. This city has been so great to me and it's still a huge part of my life. It's a departure from the Colts but certainly not from the great city of Indianapolis.
A few times Irsay referenced Manning's impact not just on the Colts franchise but the city of Indianapolis and state of Indiana. You gotta wonder if the Colts even have a new stadium that cost hundreds of millions of dollars without Manning. It's going to be weird to see Manning on another team next season.
To the Andrew Luck era we go...
