Peyton Manning Will Run His Own Free Agency Tour

Pat Kirwan of CBSSports.com has an excellent look into what might be coming as Peyton Manning embarks on his first ever free agency tour. Put simply, Manning will control the entire process. Kirwan speaks from experience from the last time a free agent as highly regarded as Manning hit the market.

I was deeply involved in the attempt to recruit the late Reggie White when free agency first began back in 1993. He wouldn't even visit unless I guaranteed we would not be outbid for his services, he wasn't going to work out, and he wanted a press conference during his stop in New York.

Trust me, Peyton Manning will control this whole process.

That includes the medical parts of all this. Manning doesn't have to let the doctors of other teams examine him. He won't have to work out for a team, if he doesn't want to. That's significant because the biggest question mark with Manning is his health. That'll make a few teams uncomfortable.

Kirwan's entire article is worth a read but this part sums it up:

We are going to hear that at least a dozen teams are interested in "kicking the tires" on Peyton Manning. Forget about some investigative approach. Bring lots of cash and hope he likes your situation. A left tackle who can pass block, at least three good receivers and one great one. He can provide a few receivers if yours aren't up to par. He'll want a solid running back, nice weather, a defense that creates turnovers and a head coach and offensive coordinator that embrace the concept of him running the offense.
