Twins, Glen Perkins Agree To Three-Year Deal

The Minnesota Twins and Glen Perkins agreed to a three-year extension with a club option.

You might be a National League partisan wondering who in the heck Glen Perkins is. Maybe you think he's a rockabilly singer who cut "Hoogily Hoogily Hoo" for Sun Records in '59. That'd be a great guess. But he's a left-handed reliever for the Minnesota Twins, and the Twins think he's a pretty good one. Good enough for a three-year deal with a club option:

The Twins signed left-handed reliever Glen Perkins on Thursday to a three-year contract extension, worth a guaranteed $10.3 million, through the 2015 season.

The deal also includes a club option for 2016. Perkins was already under contract for the 2012 season at $1.55 million.

Perkins was a first-round pick of the Twins in 2004, but last year was his first above-average year in any capacity. He posted a 2.48 ERA and had a 65/21 K/BB ratio in 61 innings, allowing just two home runs.

He'll be making a little less than the average lefty setup man, so he's taking something of a risk, but the Twins are also taking a risk by giving him three guaranteed years after a single good year.
