The Cincinnati Reds sent infielder Juan Francisco to the Braves on Sunday. In exchange, the Braves will give up minor league pitcher J.J. Hoover.

As Spring Training winds to a close and Opening Day rapidly approaches, many MLB teams are scrambling to make their final roster moves. While most teams are optioning, cutting, or reassigning players, the Cincinnati Reds initiated a trade with the Atlanta Braves for infielder Juan Francisco.

According to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, the Reds were forced to make a decision on Francisco, who was not going to make their Opening Day roster and was out of minor league options. They reached a deal that will send Francisco to Atlanta in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher J.J. Hoover, whom MLB.com named as the No.13 prospect in the Braves' system entering this year.

Talking Chop hypothesizes that the Braves will use Francisco as their starting third baseman until Chipper Jones is able to return to the lineup. Atlanta will be hoping that the young slugger can add a jolt to the lineup in the interim.
