Hansen could very well treat the 2012 Blue Grass Stakes as his personal prep race for the 2012 Kentucky Derby. The gray horse, which won the 2011 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, is the heavy morning line favorite to run away with the Blue Grass at 6-5.
Hansen will face a potent field with a few other potent competitors, but none are anywhere near him in bettors' eyes. Dullahan and Howe Great are both listed at 6-1, while Prospective is at 10-1.
Hansen also won the 2012 Gotham Stakes, a Grade III race, and is experienced on the Polytrack surface he'll run on at Keeneland on Saturday. He may return terrible value, but Hansen seems like a very safe bet.
