Blue Grass Stakes 2012: Hansen Is Clear-Cut Favorite, Watch For Howe Great

Stay connected with SB Nation

The 2012 Blue Grass Stakes will see a field of 13 horses compete for a purse of $750,000 with the post time set at 6:18 p.m. ET. It seems as if Hansen is the clear-cut favorite to win the race, but Judy Shaw of Channel 5 News in Cleveland seems to think that another horse could really make a push in the race.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Hansen is the clear favorite with enough earnings to put him in the starting gates Derby day. I like Hansen to finish in the money along with Graham Motion's colt Howe Great.

Prospective, Dullahan, Ever So Lucky and Scatman will be versed in their efforts as closers in this deep field as Prospective and Dullahan already have enough earnings to be part of the Derby lineup.

As Shaw notes, the deep field also has a handful of other horses who are nice closers that could push Hansen for the finish.
