Dustin Moseley Injury: Padres' Starter Likely Out For Season

The San Diego Padres signed Dustin Moseley as a free agent before the 2011 season, and he started 20 games with a 3.30 ERA. That would have been the fourth-best ERA of Jack Morris' career; impressive for a low-cost flyer, even after accounting for Petco Park.

Moseley made only one start this season, though, giving up five runs in as many innings. After the game, he told the trainers his shoulder didn't feel right, and here we are:

The Padres starting pitcher said Thursday that he and the Padres medical staff are awaiting a second opinion on an MRI, but that he believes surgery is his best option. Moseley, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain, also has some damage to his labrum.

The surgery would keep him out from 10 to 15 months, ending this season and putting the first half of next season at risk. The Padres replaced Moseley in the rotation with Anthony Bass, who has pitched well in two starts.
