2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 61

The SB Nation two-round NFL mock draft continues along with each lead NFL team blogger making the pick for their team. We continue the second round with the San Francisco 49ers and pick No. 61.

With the 61st pick in the SB Nation NFL writer's mock draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Miami (OH) guard Brandon Brooks.

David Fucillo explains: The 49ers enter the NFL Draft looking primarily to fill depth needs at wide receiver, safety and along the defensive line. However, there is the possibility that they will be looking for a starter at right guard. They traded up in the fifth round for Daniel Kilgore last season, and he spent most of the season on the sideline, learning the ropes. The 49ers need at guard will depend primarily on what they expect out of Kilgore in his second year. They have no qualms bringing in somebody to compete for the job, and they could go early on if they think the draft pick or Kilgore could eventually also transition over to the center position. Kevin Zeitler and Amini Silatolu are the two names at the top of the draft board, but Brandon Brooks could be an interesting prospect for the 49ers interior line.

Dan Kadar responds: The way our mock draft played out at the end of the first round, the 49ers missed out on Zeitler by a pick. That leaves San Francisco to settle on the powerful Brooks. He'd be a better option than Kilgore, particularly in the run game.
