Bobby Abreu Released By Los Angeles Angels; Mike Trout Recalled

Mike Trout started the 2012 season by humiliating minor-league pitchers, and the Angels started the 2012 season by making major-league pitchers feel pretty danged good about themselves, so it made sense that the two would meet again in the near future. But the way it happened was a bit of a surprise. From MLB.com:

The Angels called up top prospect Mike Trout and released outfielder Bobby Abreu following Friday's game.

Abreu, 38, hit a career-worst .253/.353/.365 last year. He was off to a 5-for-24 start this season, his fourth with the Angels and 17th in the league. He was vocal about his displeasure with his projected lack of playing time with the Angels, which led to some hot-'n'-heavy trade talks with the Indians that never materialized. Good news, Indians! You can just have him! Maybe Damon could play center, with Abreu in right. Sign Pat Burrell, and that's a sweet defensive outfield.

Trout played in 40 games last season for the Angels, and he was off to a .403/.467/.623 start in Salt Lake City. On one hand, it's Salt Lake City. On the other, the dude's 20. He should be in Anaheim for most of the Albert Pujols Era, at least.
