Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin 'Not Happy' And May Holdout

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin was at his team's minicamp this week, but he might not be there when training camp rolls around at the end of July. Harvin told reporters on Tuesday that he was "not happy with a couple situations." Though Harvin did not elaborate on the issues, he said things needed to be resolved before he would report to training camp on July 26.

One of those "situations" might very well be his contract. Harvin, a first-round pick in 2009, has two years left on his five-year, $12.5 million rookie contract. He is due just $915,000 in base salary this season and $1.55 million in 2013.

Harvin's value to the team is clear. He was Minnesota's top receiver last year with 87 catches for 967 yards and six touchdowns. It was the second season in a row that he was the team's leading receiver, and he will be counted on even more in 2012 with questions about Adrian Peterson's health and second-year quarterback Christian Ponder taking over for his first full season under center.

Head coach Leslie Frazier was optimistic that Harvin would be in training camp this year. According to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500, Frazier ruled out that it had anything to do with Harvin's role in the offense.

Harvin was limited in spring workouts because of offseason shoulder surgery.

The Vikings receiver is one of several high profile players threatening a holdout this season, a list that includes Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Percy Harvin Needs Minor Shoulder Surgery, Leslie Frazier Confirms

Earlier this week, Percy Harvin tweeted that he was going to need shoulder surgery. On Tuesday, his head coach Leslie Frazier confirmed it. Harvin has been feeling shoulder pain while weightlifting and will undergo arthroscopic surgery that will take a couple of weeks to recover from. Harvin should have no problem getting on the field when the Vikings start OTAs.

Frazier said that there were no indicators of problems at the end of the season, and that Harvin's shoulder pain came up while he was working out in the offseason. Frazier did not specify which shoulder was injured.

"When he left after the season there was no talk of any problems, but when he was lifting and working out he just kept getting this pain in his shoulder so he came back up, took a look at it and made the decision to clean this up."
