This really has nothing to do with Mike Morse's injury, but one of my favorite pieces of baseball errata is that Michael Morse was a shortstop. Not in A-ball like a bunch of players, but in the major leagues. He started 50 games at shortstop in the major leagues. Morse is 8'2" and 290 lbs. How was this not a bigger deal at the time?
Anyway, he was eventually moved to the outfield, and he had a fantastic season with the Nationals last year while splitting time between left and first, signing a two-year contract over the offseason. But his 2012 will be delayed because of lat injury serious and stubborn enough to put him on the disabled list to start the season.
The injury shouldn't cause him to miss weeks and weeks considering that Morse was optimistic for a return by Opening Day. With the Nationals spending money and prospects in an effort to win this year, they're not going to push Morse for the first week of the season just to lose him to something lingering in September.
