Today the Gopher Nation lost one of their students when Gary Tinsley was found dead in his room. Tinsley was found unresponsive in his bed around 7:30 a.m. this morning, the police are treating it as "Suspicious" to cover all ground, but do not feel that there was foul play. Tinsley (22), had been on twitter last night tweeting about the NBA and life. He graduated high from First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida and received a full scholarship to Minnesota. Tinsley helped lead his high school to 3 straight District 4-4A titles was ready to make an impact for the Gophers.
In his freshman year he played in seven games mostly on special teams. Tinsley came a very long way in just a few years. After a few run in's with the law, Tinsley had changed for the better and was really on the fast past to greatness. Last year, Tinsley finished second on the team in tackles with 87, recorded 9 tackles for loss, and four sacks as he helped the Gophers defense. He finished his career with 198 career tackles.
Last night Gary was tweeting before heading to bed, he was talking about how Blake Griffin disrespected Pau Gasol. Gary was a very good kid, I had the pleasure to meet Gary at the Battle of Florida All Star game this year. He was ready for his path to the draft, and Gary had everything going for himself. I had him rated at the 30th best OLB in the draft, and unfortunately, we won't be able to see where Gary gets drafted now, but we send out prayers to Gary's family from Mocking the Draft.
The University of Minnesota put out this message to the media
"It is always difficult to lose a member of the University family. Gary was close to graduating from the University’s College of Education and Human Development with a major in business and marketing education.
"In addition, he was an important part of Gopher Athletics who was engaged in public service. Our thoughts are with Gary's family and everyone on campus who knew him."
