Illinois Derby 2012: Start Time And TV Information

This weekend's horse racing schedule features two Grade I stakes, the Wood Memorial and Santa Anita Derby, taking the Illinois Derby out of the spotlight a bit. However, the race still features a very large field as well as a sizable purse, and it's proven to be a legitimate Triple Crown prep race. War Emblem, the winner of the 2002 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, won the Illinois Derby prior to his dual classic win.

A total of $500,000 is on the line in the suburban Chicago race, and there is a field of 14 horses entered. Three additional eligible horses could be added, taking the field to 17 horses for the 9 furlong (1 1/8 miles) race. Currency Swap is the morning favorite, with Our Entourage and Pretension just behind.

Post time is at 6:46 p.m. ET and the race will be shown nationally on TVG.
