Ken McRoyal, a wide receiver at the University of Idaho, died Sunday morning in Los Angeles. Idaho's Athletic Director, Rob Spear, confirmed the sad news with a brief statement.
Cause of death has not been revealed. McRoyal tweeted from his Twitter account @ItsMe8Six early Sunday morning from Los Angeles, less than 12 hours before news of his passing was released. Vandals' head coach Robb Akey (pictured right) also commented on the tragedy, via Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman:
"It's a devastating loss," coach Robb Akey said. "We've lost a brother, a teammate, a family member. But, more importantly, a momma lost her son today. All of our prayers go to the family - that they can be strong in their healing from this tragedy."
McRoyal walked on at Idaho but, according to Murphy, had earned a scholarship for the 2012 season. A rising senior, he played in eight games and caught six passes for 35 yards in 2011.
