Carolina prospect Mike Murphy is leaving the Hurricanes after signing with a team in the KHL.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Mike Murphy is leaving the NHL for the KHL in Russia. Murphy announced the move to Russia on his Twitter account.

Murphy was selected by the Hurricanes in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL draft. He made his NHL debut this season, playing in two games for Carolina. While he only played 36 minutes for the Hurricanes, he did become the first goalie in NHL history to record a loss before allowing a goal.

After being drafted by Carolina in 2008, Murphy signed a three-year contract with the Hurricanes in 2009. He played in 96 games in the AHL including 76 with the Charlotte Checkers over the last two seasons.
