Much like the previous few years a familiar face entered the Sun Drop Victory Circle at Toledo Speedway on Sunday. Chris Buescher, a development driver for Roush-Fenway Racing brought his #17 BeavEx Ford home the victor. For Buescher it was his 6th win in the ARCA Racing Series, and his fourth on the Northwestern Ohio short track. His performance dominated the afternoon, leading twice for a combined 106 of the 200 laps run. His first stint at the lead came on lap 56 when he passed pole sitter Alex Bowman, who had lead the entirety of the race up until that point. Pit strategy on lap 113 allowed Justin Marks to take the lead up to lap 132 when he was passed by nine time champion Frank Kimmel. Buescher then took the lead for the second, and final time, on lap 152 with 48 laps remaining. Kimmel attempted to run down Buescher in the closing laps, but eventually the #17's lead grew to over 3.5 seconds when the checkered flag flew.
"We had a really good race car. I wanted to bring home a win for these Thorsport guys, with the shop not far from here (Sandusky, Ohio). But it was a great day, and we'll take it," said Kimmel during post race interviews with the press.
Grant Enfinger and Clint King probably had the most eventful final 5 laps with the drivers of the #99 and #66 respectively, bumping and leaning on each other throughout the closing miles. In the end Enfinger would be able to hold off King and finish 3rd.
Tom Hessert was able to capitalize on troubles for points leader Brennan Poole. Poole's #25 experienced problems with 25 to go, causing him to finish 22nd, 3 laps down. Hessert finished 5th, and was able to take the ARCA Series points lead.
Mikey Kile had an eventful day with a early spin on lap 4 and later on lap 82 when he got into the side of Terry Jones' #30 Dodge, causing Jones to wreck hard into the turn 2 wall. With his day done, Jones took a mild swipe at Kile before coming into the pit area. Jones would tell media that he didn't actually hit the #1 car due to his "respect for Andy Belmont (the owner of the #1)," but would be seen walking over to the #1 team's pit to have a discussion with the veteran ARCA owner and former driver. Despite these incidents, Kile would bring the #1 home 6th.
Clay Rogers in the #42 also had a minor incident when he and Grant Enfinger got together coming out of turn four on lap 35. He was able to save the car though, and brought his Beard Oil Chevrolet back in one piece finishing 7th.
Chad Hackenbracht's day was reasonably uneventful compared to the rest of the top ten. While he did challenge for a top 5 spot early, he ran consistently in the top 10 and finished 8th.
Alex Bowman, the race pole sitter, lead the first 55 laps of the race. He ran in the top 5 until lap 148 when he cut turn 4 a little too tight. He got his left front tire into the grass and spun himself out, bringing out a yellow flag. After a extended pit stop to make sure the car was good to go, the #22 fought his way back up to the 9th spot.
And rounding out the top ten was Toledo area native Jared Marks. Marks was running sixth when a caution on lap 113 brought the leaders into the pits. Taking the track position, and hoping to have time to use four fresh tires later, Marks stayed out and lead the next 19 laps. When the caution came out on lap 148, Marks took his four fresh tires. But while making a charge back up towards the front, he was involved in a incident with Joey Coulter (#61), and Erik Jones (#55). Marks would be able to salvage a top 10 finish at his home track though. It was his 4th top ten finish in 10 career ARCA Series starts.
Other incidents included Spencer Gallagher getting spun out by Clay Rogers while slowing down for the Mikey Kile caution on lap 4. Gallagher's car ended up in the turn 2 wall, and ended his day extremely early. Gallagher had hoped for a top ten finish, but instead was scored 34th.
Milka Duno was involved in several incidents. Early her car appeared to be smoking, and was brought into the pits. On lap 110 she was involved in a wreck with the #5 of Bobby Gerhart, and the #85 Tim Cowen. This occurred right in front of leaders Frank Kimmel and Grant Enfinger. Later she had an incident with Toledo native Levi Youster in the #3, at about the same spot on the track as her previous wreck. She limped her #6 Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota to a 24th place finish, nine laps down.
