Terrible news this morning coming out of Baltimore as Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs will likely miss the 2012 NFL season after tearing his Achilles. Somewhat luckily for the Ravens, they managed one of the (in my opinion) steals of the draft in drafting Alabama's Courtney Upshaw after he fell to the second round. Upshaw was looking to compete for playing time with Paul Kruger across from Suggs, but now it looks like he'll be thrust into the starting role.
Upshaw had somehow managed to fall out of the first round after being rated as high as a top ten pick by many people. The Ravens traded out of the first round as the Vikings traded up for Harrison Smith. Baltimore got lucky that Upshaw fell to them at 35 overall, but now need him to step up.
I've felt that Upshaw's pass rushing skills aren't elite, but that he would be an excellent player opposite Suggs in that Ravens scheme. He's a very well rounded player, but now that the Ravens top pass rushing threat is gone, Upshaw will have to improve.
Do you think Upshaw is up to the challenge?
