The contenders are ready for the 138th Run for the Roses, but the 2012 Kentucky Derby isn't the only big race at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
The Kentucky Derby might be the "Greatest Two Minutes in Sports," but the entire day at Churchill Downs is a celebration of horse racing. In addition to the Derby, five graded stakes will run under the Twin Spires on Saturday, including two Grade 1 races, the highest level of racing in America. Among the horses that will be running on the undercard are three Breeders' Cup champions: Chamberlain Bridge (2009 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint), Amazombie (2011 Breeders' Cup Sprint), and Musical Romance (2011 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf Sprint). In addition to those horses, 2011 Preakness winner Shackleford will run in the G2-Churchill Downs Handicap.
NBC Sports Network will have coverage of most of the undercard races, including the G3-Turf Sprint, G2-Churchill Downs Handicap, G2-Distaff Turf Mile and G1-Humana Distaff. The action switches to NBC for the final two stakes races: the G1-Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and the $2 million Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, which is scheduled to go to post at 6:24pm EDT.
A live stream of the action at Churchill Downs can be found online at NBC Sports beginning at 4 pm EDT.
