There were a couple of upsets and surprises from the first round. Most notably, T.J. Graham beating out A.J. Jenkins by a landslide of 333 votes to 117. It appears his big play ability combined with the fact that Jenkins has arguably more competition for receptions was what swayed the vote. That or a lot more Bills fans read this site than 49ers fans.
More after the jump.
The other upset in terms of seeding was LaMichael James came away with the win against Stephen Hill. That one isn't quite as surprising, as its pretty easy to buy into either side. In the end, I think James duel-threat ability outshone Hill's athleticism. Hill's route running might have played into that as well. In general, they say it takes up to three years for receivers to really become adapted to the NFL with things like route running, and Hill is behind a lot of college receivers because of the system he comes from.
The other interesting match-up was Ryan Tannehill vs Bernard Pierce. The vote actually ended in a tie, with 49 votes a piece. I broke the tie and gave the result to Tannehill. I believe he'll win the starting job somewhat early on this season, which gives him much more opportunity to rack up fantasy points. And as a quarterback, the one player who touches the ball every play, he only needs to play a handful of games to score more points than Pierce, who's playtime will be limited in my opinion.
