We here at Mocking the Draft put together a bracket to match up the top 32 rookie quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends drafted in April. Put simply, it's a NCAA tournament style bracket to help us decide which rookie will score the most fantasy points this coming season. If you want to see the updated bracket with the results of the first round, click here. Today's match up: Andrew Luck vs Isaiah Pead.
Why vote for Luck?
Everyone knew he was going to be the number one pick for seemingly two years, that was a formality. Now, everyone knows he's going to be the week one starter for the Colts, this will be but a formality. He's been studying the Colts play book intently while waiting to get to work with the veterans. He'll know where and when to go with the ball, and have the likes of seasoned vet Reggie Wayne, along with rookie tight end duo Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen among his targets. He'll be given full control of the offense, and won't be afraid to take a shot if he sees an opportunity. I fully expect fantasy points to be the next formality for Andrew Luck.
More after the jump.
Why vote against Luck?
He's only just started practicing with the veterans this week. Due to stupid rules, Luck is forced to stay away from the Colts facility while he's completing college and graduating. While other rookies have been with their new teams for months now, Luck is only just getting started with the vets. It remains to be seen just how much catching up he has to do.
Why vote for Pead?
An explosive third down back with running and catching ability can be huge fantasy earners. Just look at Darren Sproles last year. Everyone is looking for someone that can put up the kind of numbers he did for the Saints last year, and the Rams might feel they've found that in Pead. If he see's the field, he could be an important target for Sam Bradford given how poorly their offensive line played last year.
Why vote against Pead?
He's up against the number one pick here. Luck is going to put up his fair share of fantasy points this year unless he gets injured. Pead is likely to be restricted to a small number of snaps while he adjusts to the NFL level behind Steven Jackson.
