Last season, Brandon McCarthy enjoyed the seasons of seasons.
It got him on a magazine cover.
But even then, McCarthy managed only 25 starts because of the chronic shoulder problem that's cost him big chunks of time, year after year.
This season, he was the A's Opening Day starter, but went on the Disabled List a few weeks ago with that same old shoulder problem. He returned on the 7th of June, and last week made one of his best starts all spring, pitching seven strong innings to beat the Rangers.
But that darned shoulder's acting up again.
McCarthy sent home with right shoulder soreness. He'll be examined by doctors in Bay and get MRI.

Publicly, McCarthy has seemed resigned to occasionally missing a few weeks, because nobody's yet been able to figure a way to repair McCarthy's shoulder; all that helps is rest.
