College World Series 2012: Opening Ceremonies Begin Thursday

The first game of the 2012 College Wold Series isn't until Friday, but the tournament kicks off with opening ceremonies Thursday night.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:30 p.m. ET at TD Ameritrade Park, the site of the 2012 College World Series. The event will include an appearance from Nomar Garciaparra, who played in the 1994 College World Series. The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will also perform a pyrotechnic jump into the stadium from 12,500 feet above the ground.

Each of the eight teams participating in the 2012 College World Series will be introduced during the opening ceremony. The Stepper-ettes Parade and Dance Team, the largest baton-twirling group in the Midwest, will help introduce each time. The opening ceremony will conclude with a fireworks show.

Action on the field begins Friday with Stony Brook taking on UCLA in the first game of the 2012 College World Series.
