College World Series 2012: Arkansas Ends South Carolina's Winning Streak

South Carolina's streak is dead. Thanks to Arkansas, the Gamecocks will have to come up with another one to prevail at the 2012 College World Series.

The Razorbacks used good pitching to back up timely hitting in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday that snapped winning streaks of 12 games at the College World Series and 22 in NCAA Tournament play for South Carolina, which had not lost in either event since dropping its first game in Omaha in 2010.

This guy seemed to enjoy it.

Starter Ryne Stanek allowed one run on three hits in six innings, and reliever Barrett Astin slammed the door with three innings of scoreless one-hit ball to give the Razorbacks the victory. Dominic Ficocello and Matt Vinson each had an RBI for Arkansas.

South Carolina got a run from an RBI triple by Evan Marzilli in the fifth inning, but never held the lead, and could not crack the Arkansas hurlers despite Tyler Webb's 5.1 innings of scoreless ball.

Arkansas will await the winner of a South Carolina-Kent State elimination game on Wednesday.
