South Carolina will look to win their third consecutive College World Series title by taking a page from 2011's title run and starting sophomore right-hander Forrest Koumas (2-2, 4.56 ERA) in Game 1 of the best-of-three series Sunday night against Arizona.
Koumas pitched the first game of last year's final against Florida, but hasn't thrown for the Gamecocks since May 25 in the SEC Tournament, meaning he'll make his first appearance of the postseason in the CWS Finals. The move likely sets up senior lefty Michael Roth, South Carolina's ace who's undefeated in two previous runs in Omaha, to start Game 2. In Game 1 of the 2011 final, Koumas went 5 and 2/3 innings with one run and three hits allowed.
South Carolina advanced to their third consecutive CWS Final after a 3-2 win over SEC rival Arkansas on Friday.
