Friday, Joe Saunders couldn't warm up. Saturday, Joe Saunders was on the disabled list.

Diamondbacks lefthander Joe Saunders was warming up for a planned start Friday against the Chicago Cubs. He complained that he couldn't get loose and was replaced at the last minute by Josh Collmenter.

Turns out the problem was more than just "getting loose" -- Saunders is now on the disabled list. Dayn Perry:

Arizona has backdated the move to June 17, which means Saunders, so long as he's not seriously hurt, could return in very early July. The club has not replaced him on the roster with top prospect Trevor Bauer, who's presently dominating at Triple-A Reno. Instead, they've recalled right-handed reliever Jonathan Albaladejo. It's not certain who will replace Saunders in the rotation, although Josh Collmenter, who started in place of Saunders on Friday, would seem to be the likely stop-gap. Still, it's a bit hard to understand why Bauer isn't yet in Arizona, especially given the lack of rotation depth.

It would not be surprising to see Bauer, the third overall pick in last year's draft, in the major leagues soon. He's 4-0 with a 2.79 ERA at Reno with 51 strikeouts in 42 innings over seven starts.
