Minnesota Twins closer Matt Capps is likely headed to the disabled list. After experiencing some shoulder soreness in mid-June, the Twins decided to shut him down for a week. He returned this weekend, pitching in their loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night. But Capps felt the effects of that appearance, showing up to the ballpark on Sunday bothered by a sore shoulder.

When they decided to shut him down, the Twins initially stated that there was no structural damage and he would likely not need an MRI. After this latest setback, however, he's headed to see the team doctors and get an MRI on Monday. Regardless of the results, it's likely that he'll land on the DL. Via John Shipley of TwinCities.com:

"All signs point to him going on the DL," assistant general manager Rob Antony said.

Capps has converted 14 saves in 15 chances this year and is in the last season of his contract, making him a potential trade chip for the struggling Twins. This setback and shoulder scare could take a deadline deal off the table.
